Lentelus Farms is a mixed livestock and grain operation on Vancouver Island and Kelowna. Their cover cropping program uses cover crops as part of a winter wildfowl habitat program on the lands leased from Ducks Unlimited Canada. With a majority of their fields planted as permanent grass stands now, they have 20 acres of cropland in cover crops which are on their vegetable and grain rotations using cover crop seed grown on the farm. This fall, they are planting in rye and tillage radish to naturally break up compaction and reduce their tillage program going into spring 2023. Their cover cropping schedule largely depends on what crops they have planned for the following year.
