The BC Climate Agri-Solutions Fund and the BC Institute of Agrologists invites you to join us for the first presentation in our Webinar Speaker Series. On January 18, Dr. Mehdi Sharifi from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will talk about cover cropping, more specifically cover crops utilization in perennial horticultural crops for carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

Dr. Sharifi’s presentation will include:

• • An introduction to cover crops in agricultural systems including the potential benefits.
  • The role of cover crops in carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions mitigation.
  • The result of a study on ground vegetation management in Canadian semiarid vineyards.

Dr Mehdi Sharifi Bio:

Dr. Mehdi Sharifi is a “soil nutrient management” research scientist at Summerland Research and Development Centre. Dr. Sharifi’s research activities are focused on enhancing the environmental sustainability and resilience of agricultural systems through groundcover vegetation management and use of organic soil amendments. His interests extend to propagation and ethno-agronomy of culturally significant native plant species.
